The soup in the pressure cooker has stopped hissing — the hand reaches to twist the lid “now the heat is off”. The pin is still up: pressure is under it, steam hits the face, the lid comes off hard. I wait until the pin drops by itself, and only then loosen the lid — otherwise a saved minute costs a burn and a splashed pot.

Why I loosen the lid on the pressure cooker only when the pin drops. A lid against oil spit is about the frying pan; a lid that fits is about the pot; cooling jam before the lid is about a jar; wiping the rim is about the seal. Here it is only pressure: pin down — then the lid — not a speech about a new cooker from the aisle.

If I already pulled while the pin stood — I put the lid back, wait for the drop, open again. I don’t poke the valve with a needle “for luck”. This note is only the cooker already by our hob — not a brand comparison.

I don’t need to save a minute at the cost of hot steam in the face. I need a quiet lid after the pin has dropped. In your kitchen do you wait for the pin — or already twist the lid while it still stands?
