Courgettes at the end of the glut — freeze or fritters?

End of the glut — and the board is already green with courgettes “still more tomorrow”. Easy to leave the pile: by midweek they soften, the fridge smells of water, the hand reaches for the bin. I choose today: grate some for fritters tonight, slice and freeze the rest dry — so the glut becomes supper and a bag with a name, not a soft heap.

Courgettes at the end of the glut — freeze or fritters? The freezer drawer I actually remember is another note; one-tray roast veg its own; leftover roast veg another story. Here it’s the glut itself: fritters now or freeze for later — not a lecture about “twelve courgette recipes”.

For the freezer I blot slices, freeze in one layer, then bag with a date — not a wet brick. Soft or bitter ones go to fritters or the bin, not into ice “nobody will notice”. I’m not writing a new fritter batter review in this note — it’s about the pile that already sits on our board.

I don’t need a green mountain that quietly turns to water. I need a choice tonight: pan or freezer, from which autumn still has courgette without shame. At yours does the glut leave as fritters or a named bag — or already wait “still more tomorrow”?
